I live in Australia and am meeting my girlfriend’s parents for the 2nd time, can I wear thongs (flip flops)?
My girlfriend’s parents commented last time I met them (for the first time) that I wore thongs and they thought it was a little strange.
My girlfriend agrees and has now asked me not to wear thongs this weekend. I don’t think that this is a big deal and they should be more interested in my personality.
Is it just me, who else think it’s weird to wear thongs to meet the in-laws?
I thought thongs were the official shoe of Australia. What is the problem?
I can see if you are going to a nice restaurant or the theater that these are not appropriate, but otherwise they are acceptable footwear.
Why would you want to be a phony and not wear what you are comfortable in? If your girlfriend and her parents cannot accept you for who you are, you owe it to yourself to find someone who can. Do you really want to be surrounded by uptight people your whole life?
