Do they make leather from animals that die of natural causes?

Do they ever make leather from animals that die of “old age” or other natural causes, or do they always kill them? Because at one point I was trying to be a vegetarian but somebody argued that leather is ok because they take the hide off the animal no matter how it dies… And what animal is leather generally used on boots, belts, Bibles, etc from? Cows or pigs? I mean what if one follows the biblical command that pork is unclean yet has a pig skin covered Bible?

Typical leather producers skin the animals alive; don’t underestimate the cruelty of life.
