Sand Rare
Is it safe to use sand with a betta?

I have a single male betta in a 15 gallon tank. Right now there is gravel in the tank, but I really don’t like the gravel. I would like to switch to a different substrate. I was hoping to try sand, but have seen a few things online about how bettas eat the sand and die. ( I have also seen a bunch of stuff that says that you can use sand or gravel, so now I’m just unsure.) Is this truly a hazard with bettas, or is it a very rare occurrence?

If I can’t use sand, what can I use that will be similar to sand, but won’t pose a risk to my betta?

Thanks!
Some people use sand in freshwater tanks. Thanks though.

it is Absolutely safe ☺ as long as you use **freshwater sand**, it looks really nice go for it!

Edit: My ♥fishie♥ has never eaten sand, on the contrary he lays on the sand more often than when he had that hard ugly gravel ,it softer for him. Your fish will not eat the sand he is a carnivore, and if he does just change it back to gravel.
