Is it OK to use a sand wedge to practice short putting game?

Or is the sand wedge only for the sand bunker?
I wanna use the sand wedge when i am 20 feet away from the hole is this normal?
It is a plain green turf fast surface with no thick grass.

It is poor sportsmanship to use anything but the putter on the green. However the sandwedge can be use in the bunker, for chipping, and even for longer shots that you need high loft on.
